Academy Students Get Insight into ACDC
As part of their GCSE Applied Business Unit 1 coursework, a group of twenty-three students from Accrington Academy recently visited the exciting Innovation Works in Barrowford – home to ACDC.
During the visit to the superb new headquarters, the students were given an in-depth insight into the company, its people and products, through a comprehensive presentation and informative tour of the offices, warehouse and manufacturing facility.
Lit entirely with ACDC products, including the new award winning range of Evolution LED architectural recessed downlighters, Innovation Works is the base for the Barrowford based manufacturer that has established a reputation for pushing the boundaries of advancement in both Cold Cathode and LED lighting technology.
Commenting on the visit, Accrington Academy tutor, Paulette Smith said: “The students have been studying ACDC for some time, as it is a dynamic local, manufacturing company. The information they put together during the visit, as well information from the company’s website and literature has been used by the students to complete a number of coursework tasks.”
Work produced for the project includes a summary of ACDC’s business activities, ownership, location and objectives. In addition, the group of students has also looked in detail at how environmental and economic factors affect the company.
Commenting further, Paulette added: “The group really enjoyed the visit to ACDC, especially as this was their first time in a manufacturing company. They could see clearly how the business operates and were given first-hand experience of how products are produced. Especially interesting was the hand-shaping of cold cathode lighting, which they were given an opportunity to try for themselves.”
