ACDC Reaching New Heights in the Middle East

ACDC are very pleased to announce that the Burj Tower Dubai project (recently renamed the Burj Khalifa), which we have supplied  approximately 5000 metres of cold cathode lighting and several LED products to, opened on the Monday 4th January, amid a gala of fireworks.

The final height of the Burj Tower still remains a closely guarded secret that won\'t be revealed until the opening ceremony, however at a reported height of around 2,684ft (818m) the Burj Tower is a new record breaker and is now known as the world’s tallest tower, dwarfing its nearest rival, the Taipei 101 in Taiwan, which rises 1,667ft (508m).

The steel-ribbed, glass-clad structure has 169 floors and more than 50 lifts. It also boasts the world\'s highest swimming pool, on the 76th floor, and the most elevated place of worship with a mosque on the 158th floor. The building has 900 residences and a hotel designed by Giorgio Armani. The observation deck is on Floor 124 and sky lobbies will have fitness facilities, swimming pools and Jacuzzis. The top of the building can be seen from 60 miles away and the exterior is covered in around 26,000 glass panels.

ACDC worked with lighting designers Fisher Marantz Stone and distributors, Cinmar to deliver the project. The Armani Hotel features several large areas of cold cathode such as ACDC’s ‘Dual Hi’ control gear with outstanding dimming capabilities and Coldstar Zero, which was specified due to being the most energy efficient cold cathode available, operating at an outstanding 18 watt per metre, in line with the buildings’ strict energy efficiency guidelines.

Gareth Frankland, ACDC CEO comments, “ACDC are proud to be associated with Dubai’s latest iconic building, the Burj Tower, having completed the original Dubai icon, Burj Al Arab. We worked closely with local representatives, Cinmar lighting in securing and shipping this project, and the results are truly outstanding. This is another great achievement for ACDC Lighting Systems and we endeavor to continue working with the world’s top designers on the world’s most prestigious projects."
