Dundrum Retail Complex
Dundrum Shopping Centre in Ireland has recently been completed by ACDC Lighting Systems. The scheme, designed by Lighting Design International, incorporates over two thousand metres of ACDC’s low voltage cold cathode Covelite in both twin and single 20mm diameter modules.
Cold cathode was selected for the illumination of the recessed coffers throughout the centre for its long, 45000 hour lamp life, offering the client a maintenance free long term solution. The curved coffers also presented many interesting shapes, with intricate contours which could be accurately followed by the cold cathode lamp detail.
Importantly for the retail environment, the system offered a high light output, along with a suitable choice of coloured lamps, unachievable with a fluorescent sleeve solution. The stunning visual effects in the malls were a fantastic concept using Midnight Blue and 3500K lamps. The designed effect of white light during the day and deep blue at night, were cleverly bridged using subtle lilac hues during the transitionary period, to create a truly dynamic lighting scheme.
The ACDC TINY COVELITE was chosen for its flexibility, long life and low energy characteristics combined with compact high frequency electronic control gear, TINY. The rapid installation and energy savings were also significant benefits offered to the client, and were key factors in the delivery of this exciting installation.
Project Engineer Paul Whittaker commented, that “the Covelite system allowed for rapid manufacture and installation, reducing on site times by up to 70%. On a rapidly moving project as this with extremely tight timescales, the Covelite system is ideal.”
Dundrum Shopping Centre has brought a huge retail complex to a relatively small town on the outskirts of Dublin giving it a welcome buzz, and represents one of several shopping centres already completed by ACDC in Ireland to date.
