LED's help set the tone at Doha's most vibrant hotel
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide opened its first W Hotel in the Middle East, in partnership with owners and developers J&A Jaidah Holdings. The lighting was designed by DHA Design and features a selection of LED products from ACDC, to provide dramatic lighting effects that, quite literally, cannot be ignored.
Sparkling by the crystal blue waters of the Arabian Gulf and set against a breathtaking exotic desert landscape, the W Doha Hotel & Residences is located in the heart of Doha, on the Qatar peninsula, where majesty meets metropolitan style. It is the first W Hotel designed by United Designers, who created a series of spaces that ‘challenge the expectations of the modern day traveller’.
W Hotel features 291 guest rooms, including 31 suites and 154 residences. The brand’s signature ‘Living Room’ experience and Bliss Spa are complemented by a spice market restaurant experience, poolside shisha lounge, champagne bar and luxury retail space. The brand celebrates playfulness and cutting edge design in a Doha setting – and the end result is bold, lively and infused with energy.
DHA Lighting Design was called in to create the stunning lighting scheme that certainly doesn’t shy away from colour. Utilising a range of luminaires from ACDC, including Magna and Luna, the hotel takes a sharp detour from what has become the norm to offer a rich and varied palette of vibrant colours. Moreover, with the extended lifetime offered by the LED lightsource, the hotel is able to enjoy large-scale energy saving benefits and a much faster return on initial investment.
Through the use of RGB Magna fittings, the hotel mixes a palette of greys, blues and silvers for an understated, calming effect. Then, when a vibrant, fun atmosphere is desired – which is what the W Hotel is all about – the colour change fittings are reflected against glossy surfaces, in reds and oranges, to turn up the energy levels. In addition, 46 RGB Magna fittings were installed within the exterior canopy at the hotel entrance, to ensure that the first impression of the hotel is one that is truly memorable.
