New Home and Vision for the future designed and built in Barrowford
Designed and constructed in the UK by Barrowford based manufacturer ACDC, is usually a line referring to the company’s fantastic range of products. But in this particular instance, the adage also applies to the company’s brand new office premises and manufacturing facility.
Designed and conceived largely by the team of directors at ACDC and with the majority of the construction work being carried out by local contractors and suppliers, with a great deal of help from the enthusiastic ACDC employees, the project was very much a ‘local’ enterprise – which has generated an outstanding end result!
And, although ACDC has only moved literally a ‘stones-throw’ away from the former premises in Pasture Lane, the two sites could not be more different. Boasting over 30,000 sq. ft of manufacturing space, state of the art facilities and interior design to rival that of the larger ‘corporations’, the new building reflects the company’s current position in the market as well as the ambitious vision for the future.
Already ‘leading the way in lighting’, ACDC is looking to further establish its reputation for pushing the boundaries of innovation both in Cold Cathode and LED lighting technology. In fact, ACDC has recently been presented a prestigious award for the superb Evolution product, at the 100% Design show in London.
At the recent official opening ceremony, Gareth Frankland, the managing director of the LED side of the business commented: “We are obviously proud of our new home and ACDC would like to thank all the contractors who worked on the building along with many of our suppliers, staff and colleagues who all rolled their sleeves up and helped us to open the doors one week ahead of schedule.”
In his speech, Gareth also welcomed Dorothy Dawes, wife of former director Colin Dawes who was struck down by Mesothelioma just weeks before the move to the new office premises. Dorothy was special guest for the event, actually performing the ‘Grand Switch-On’ of the lights to the exterior of the new building.
In addition, Dorothy also received a cheque for £1,000, on behalf of the Mesothelioma research charity, the Special Trustees of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. The donation was raised during a preview opening event, for ACDC staff, friends and family, during which a charity auction of items from the old premises was held.
